5th India IVF Summit 2024

About the 5th India IVF Summit 2024

While it has been more than 4 decades since a pathbreaking landmark in the field of infertility treatment was achieved with the birth of Louise Brown on 25th July, a day marked and commemorated as World IVF Day. Still when it comes to infertility, awareness around the issue is not sufficient enough to dispel myths and false information, generated by traditional sources. Specially in a society like ours, that is deeply rooted in orthodoxies, taboos and patriarchal outlook when it comes to issues like sexual health, menstrual health and hygiene, sanitation and mental health.

According to many estimates, India’s fertility rate has been constantly deteriorating, with the National Family Health Survey 2019-21 placing it at an all-time low of 1.6 in the urban population and 2.1 in their rural cohorts.

Hence it is important to create awareness on the issue and normalize the concept so that people are open to seeking medical advice and are comfortable about discussing the issue and relevant concepts associated with it. Counselling should be a part of such medical interventions as it can go a long way in addressing the mental issues and depression that can accompany the problem of infertility especially in cases of primary infertility. With advances in medical science, such couples can now have a biological child using advanced procedures like In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), which has shown to be successful in about 90 per cent of cases, making it a popular choice for infertile couples. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of infertile couples and fertility service providers in India over the last decade. Comprehensive care and coverage for fertility therapy have opened up new vistas for all stakeholders in the fertility industry. IVF cycle success rates have increased to around 60 per cent on average over the years. The 5th Edition of the ‘IVF Summit’ being organized to mark the World IVF Day, will provide a platform to health doyens from the government authorities, policymakers, healthcare doyens, medical and research institutions as well as couple seeking therapy to come together and discuss about the concerns and challenges in infertility in India with special reference to IVF, its future, risk management, ethical and professional issues around the procedure
