Chandrakant Lahariya (MBBS, MD, DNB, MBA) is an internationally acclaimed primary care physician, academician, health policy researcher and global health expert. He has nearly 20 years of experience in ‘connecting grassroots to global health’.
His areas of work and expertise includes primary care, lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity, community engagement in health, child health, vaccination, school health, early childhood development, health policy, health systems, emerging and re-emerging diseases, and universal health coverage.
Dr Lahariya has worked as staff member & consultant with multiple UN agencies & international health organisations such as WHO India Country office, WHO regional office for Africa in Brazzaville; WHO HQ in Geneva; UNICEF field office for Maharashtra, India; UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia; World Bank India; Engender Health; WISH Foundation & Jhpiego India, amongst other.
Dr Lahariya has set up a not for profit ‘Foundation for people-centric Health System’, which works at grassroots level in delivering quality primary healthcare services to marginalised populations. The organisation follows multi-pronged approach of evidence synthesis for designing interventions and formulating policies; conducting health & science communication, capacity building of early career public health professionals and publishing an international peer reviewed medical journal – Preventive Medicine Research and Reviews’ as the Editor in Chief.
Dr Lahariya has worked with & studied health systems of nearly 30 countries & supported policy & program formulations in multiple countries including India. He has been part of key policy reforms in India i.e. national vaccine policy 2011, national health policy 2017 and designing & implementation of Mohalla clinics of Delhi & ayushman bharat program and health & wellness centres- both in areas of primary health care In the country.
Dr Lahariya is the co-lead of an early childhood development program which is based upon science & uses the toys and books for brain development of newborns & toddlers. As part of programme, he leads workshops for parents.
He has published more than 150 articles in reputed science journals, written 50+ chapters, contributed to 300+ monographs & reports, 500+ OpEds in leading newspapers. He is in top 2% researchers globally in field of clinical medicine & pediatrics.
He has received multiple awards including WHO Certificate of Appreciation 2014 & Indian Council of Medical Research/MoHFW Award for yr 2012.
