Dr. Abha Majumdar is one of India’s foremost pioneers in reproductive medicine and assisted reproductive technology (ART), widely regarded as a trailblazer in the field of infertility treatment. She served as the Director and Head of the Centre of IVF & Human Reproduction at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, where she established one of India’s most respected institutional IVF programs and helped transform the landscape of fertility care in the country. She currently serves as Emeritus Consultant and Advisor to the Centre, continuing to mentor clinicians and manage complex infertility cases.

An outstanding academic from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, Dr. Majumdar graduated at the top of her university, receiving the President’s Medal, Chancellor’s Medal, and seven gold medals during her MBBS, followed by postgraduate specialization in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her lifelong commitment to learning, innovation, and scientific excellence has shaped a distinguished career spanning more than four decades.

Dr. Majumdar is widely credited with establishing IVF technology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and leading the team that achieved a historic milestone with the birth of the first IVF baby in Northern India in September 1991. Under her leadership, the Centre of IVF & Human Reproduction evolved into one of India’s premier institutions for infertility management, reproductive endocrinology, reproductive surgery, and advanced assisted reproductive technologies, treating thousands of couples from India and abroad.

Her clinical expertise encompasses infertility management, IVF, ICSI, recurrent implantation failure, reproductive endocrinology, fertility preservation, recurrent pregnancy loss, and advanced endoscopic surgery. Throughout her career, she has consistently championed evidence-based medicine and individualized fertility care, earning widespread recognition for successfully managing some of the most challenging reproductive cases.

Beyond her clinical accomplishments, Dr. Majumdar has made remarkable contributions to medical education, research, and professional leadership. She has served as Professor at the Sir Ganga Ram Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GRIPMER), mentored generations of reproductive medicine specialists, authored numerous scientific publications and textbook chapters, and held leadership positions in several national and international professional societies, including the Indian Fertility Society.
