Dr. Ajay ably represent AstraZeneca position on key business matters across MoHFW, Min of Chemicals & Fertilisers, Min of Commerce, Min of Finance, Min of External Affairs, State Governments, Drug Controller offices, Other Statutory and Non-Statutory bodies. He also works closely with internal teams on NPPA and DPIIT related legal matters. In addition, his work also involves to create a favourable Policy shaping environment for the business units AZ is engaged in, by building industry consensus at various Associations, Trade bodies, NGO’s, Patient advocacy groups, Embassies and Corporate Affairs colleagues from across the industry. He also holds complete responsibility for all global interactions within AstraZeneca world including Chairman, CEO, Visiting Global dignitaries/ Government Ministers and Diplomats within India. He is the winner of Transforming Behaviour award for 2022 and 2020 and hattrick of Best Government Affairs Asia Area Award 2022, 2021 & 2020 at AstraZeneca.
In his previous role at Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India, he assessed trends, policies, and emerging issues to develop and implement various strategies and actions to effectively anticipate and address challenges coming from pharmaceutical industry and allied industries such as medical devices, diagnostics, HC delivery, agriculture etc. He was also responsible for managing relationships with key International Government agencies and Associations like WHO, USTR, USPTO, EfPIA, JPMA, Interprat, PhRMA, UKIBC, USIBC, USISPF, GIPC, ADVAMED, ASIA GROUP, ADVAMED, RxGPS etc. and led Intellectual Property Rights, Finance & Taxation and Medical & Regulatory Work group.
Some of his notable key contributions over the years have seen him playing a instrumental role in release of National Rare Disease policy 2021 & 2017, Ayushman Bharat scheme, Clinical Trial Rules 2019, DPCO 2013 amendments and Biosimilar guidelines 2016. He is currently focussing on GST rate exemption for Cancer medicines, introducing Uniform Code for Pharma Marketing Practices, inclusion of “missing middle class” under Ayushman Bharat, amendments to Drugs & Magic remedies act and making Cancer a notifiable disease.
Dr. Ajay has an MBBS degree, complemented by an MBA in Marketing from SP Jain and IPR course from George Mason University.
