Dr. Chandak’s academic and scientific journey is marked by exceptional distinction. A medical doctor with advanced doctoral and post-doctoral training in molecular genetics and genomics, he previously served as Chief Scientist at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, and was a founding faculty member as well as the former Director of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), two of India’s most prestigious scientific institutions. His groundbreaking contributions to genetic disorders, molecular diagnostics, and translational medicine have earned him some of the highest scientific honors in the country, including the Sir J.C. Bose Fellowship and fellowship of all four Indian National Science Academies, in addition to recognition from The World Academy of Sciences.

Under his leadership, Lightening Lives LLP has emerged as an impactful health tech venture focused on developing low-cost molecular diagnostics, dried blood spot-based testing platforms, community screening programs, and preventive healthcare models. His work has been particularly transformative in India’s Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission, where his innovative diagnostic approaches have enabled large-scale genetic screening in tribal and underserved populations across multiple states. Recent public health programs led by his team have demonstrated the ability to screen lakhs of individuals with higher diagnostic accuracy, operational efficiency, and improved community participation.
