Dr. Harsh Mahajan is an eminent radiologist who is the founder and managing director of Mahajan Imaging, which runs a chain of diagnostic centers in Delhi. He did his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College and MD in Radiology from PGI, Chandigarh. After a short stint at AIIMS, New Delhi, he won the Rotary International Scholarship and went to the world-famous MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA, in 1987 to do a fellowship in MRI. He set up one of India’s first MRI centers in 1991, which would qualify as a startup in today’s parlance. This was started even before AIIMS, PGI, or other large hospitals had an MRI. He is a pioneer in the field of imaging in India, credited with bringing many new technologies into the country, is a postgraduate teacher and examiner, and travels widely to deliver lectures on clinical applications of the latest cutting-edge technologies. He has been an invited speaker at MIT in Boston, the Radiology Society of North America in Chicago, and the European Society of Radiology in Vienna and has lectured in Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and all neighboring countries. Over 250 practicing radiologists have been trained in his centers. He currently has centers, which are standalone facilities, in Delhi and Gurgaon, in private-private partnership with Sir Ganga Ram, PSRI, and Fortis Hospitals and public-private partnership with the Govt. of India at Safderjang Hospital. Mahajan Imaging Pvt. Ltd. is unique in that it straddles all healthcare delivery systems in India. They have the distinction of being of service to several presidents and prime ministers of India, top corporate honchos, and also the poorest of the poor with concessional and free scans. They have an ethos of helping the underprivileged, with the affluent patients subsidizing the poor. Dr. Mahajan has received many accolades and awards, including the Padma Shri in 2002. He was the National President of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association in 2012. He is a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency at Vienna, an advisor to UPSC, and is on the Govt. Committee for Make in India for MRI and several others. He is an active social worker associated with several NGOs. He is chairman of Tamana, which runs three schools for autistic and multiply challenged children; is a trustee of Rotary Gift of Life Trust, which provides free cardiac surgery to poor children; and has been on the Board of Governors of Sriram College of Commerce, Delhi Public School, Automobile Association of Upper India, and on the Board of Directors of Punjab National and Indian Overseas Banks.
