Dr. Indu Aggarwal
Head of Department, Preventive Oncology
Rajlv Gandhl Cancer Institute & Research Centre
Dr. Indu Aggarwal is a distinguished physician and public-health champion serving as the Head of Department — Preventive Oncology at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) in New Delhi, one of Asia’s premier cancer care and research institutions. With a career that spans clinical medicine, community engagement and cancer prevention advocacy, she leads the department responsible for designing and implementing impactful prevention, screening and early detection strategies aimed at reducing the burden of cancer in diverse populations.
Dr. Aggarwal graduated with her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi in 1986, followed by a Diploma in Gynaecology & Obstetrics (DGO) in 1990 and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Hospital & Health-care Management (PGDHHM) from IGNOU, enabling a holistic approach that bridges clinical practice with community health management. Before joining RGCIRC in 2011, she practised obstetrics and gynaecology for more than two decades, managing her own nursing home and gaining deep experience in women’s health — expertise that she has channelled into population-centric cancer prevention efforts.
At RGCIRC, Dr. Aggarwal has spearheaded preventive oncology initiatives focused on raising awareness, debunking myths and improving early cancer detection in both hospital settings and underserved communities. Her work involves organising large-scale screening programmes, educational camps and outreach drives that promote routine breast, cervical and oral cancer checks, often combined with lifestyle-modification counselling and risk-factor reduction strategies. She emphasises that many cancers can be prevented or treated successfully when detected early, reinforcing the core message of preventive medicine in oncology.
Beyond her clinical and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Aggarwal is a noted voice in public health discourse on cancer prevention and early detection, regularly contributing to awareness campaigns and expert commentaries in national media. Her leadership reflects a commitment to reducing cancer incidence through education, screening access and community mobilisation, making substantive contributions to India’s public-health landscape in cancer control
