Dr. Madhulika Kabra is a distinguished Indian pediatrician, clinical geneticist, and biomedical scientist with a long and impactful career in child health, genetics, and rare diseases. She served as professor & head of the Department of Pediatrics and in charge of the Division of Genetics at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS)—one of the country’s leading tertiary care and academic institutions—where she combined clinical excellence with visionary leadership in genetics and genomics, advancing both patient care and scientific research for decades.
Dr. Kabra’s academic and professional journey is grounded in rigorous medical training and a deep commitment to children’s health and genetic medicine. As a key leader of the Genetics Division at AIIMS, she helped develop one of India’s most comprehensive clinical genetics programs, encompassing diagnostics, counselling, research, and education in rare and inherited disorders. Under her stewardship, the division gained international recognition, including designation as a World Health Organization collaborating center for training in clinical and laboratory genetics, and played an instrumental role in supporting national health initiatives such as the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram and rare disease policy implementation.
Beyond clinical leadership, Dr. Kabra’s academic contributions and scientific influence have been widely acknowledged: she was named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in 2025 based on composite citation impact metrics, reflecting her research contributions to pediatric genetics and rare disorders. She also served on high-level expert committees, including the Central Technical Committee on Rare Diseases and an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) task force on rare diseases, underscoring her role in shaping research and policy at national and institutional levels.
As a mentor and educator, Dr. Kabra trained generations of clinicians and researchers in pediatrics and genetics, building capacity in a field critical for early diagnosis and personalized care. Her work encompassed not only scientific discovery but also empathetic, patient-centered care for children and families affected by genetic disorders—from newborn screening and dysmorphology to inborn errors of metabolism and complex syndromes.
After a notable career at AIIMS, she continues her association with research and the scientific community as an Emeritus Scientist of the ICMR, contributing her expertise to ongoing national efforts in genomics, rare disease research, and public health strategy—a testament to her enduring influence on child health, clinical genetics, and health systems strengthening in India.
