Dr. Rajinder K. Dhamija is a distinguished neurologist, academician, and public health expert who serves as Professor of Neurology and Director at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), New Delhi. With over three decades of experience in neurology and healthcare leadership, he is widely recognized for his contributions to clinical neuroscience, medical education, and public health policy in India.
Dr. Dhamija has built an illustrious career marked by pioneering work in stroke, movement disorders, and neurorehabilitation, with his research gaining international recognition. His academic output includes more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to global medical literature, reflecting his commitment to advancing evidence-based neurological care.
Prior to his current leadership role, he played a foundational role in developing neurology as a specialty in India by establishing the Department of Neurology at Lady Hardinge Medical College, where he also served as its head. His transition to IHBAS marked a significant step in strengthening one of India’s premier institutes for mental health, neuroscience, and allied disciplines.
Beyond clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Dhamija has been actively involved in national and international advisory roles. He serves as chair of movement disorders at the World Federation of Neurorehabilitation and as an international advisor to the Royal College of Physicians (London), reflecting his global influence in neurological sciences. His work also extends to public health communication, where he has contributed to awareness through media engagements and health education initiatives.
His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the S. Radhakrishnan Memorial National Medical Teacher Award and the National Award for Science and Technology (2021) by the Government of India.
