Dr. Rakesh Sahay is a highly respected endocrinologist, clinician-scientist, and academic leader who serves as professor of endocrinology at Osmania Medical College and Osmania General Hospital, Hyderabad, and has held the position of president of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI)—the country’s largest professional body dedicated to diabetes research and care.
With over three decades of experience in metabolic medicine, Dr. Sahay is widely recognized for his contributions to the management of diabetes, thyroid disorders, obesity, and other endocrine conditions. His clinical expertise is complemented by a strong academic foundation, with advanced qualifications including MD, DNB, and DM in endocrinology, and fellowships from prestigious national and international medical bodies.
A prolific researcher, he has served as principal investigator in numerous multicentric international clinical trials spanning diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, and osteoporosis, contributing to evidence-based advancements in endocrine care. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to medical textbooks, helping shape clinical practice guidelines and scientific understanding in endocrinology.
As President of RSSDI, Dr. Sahay has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s response to the growing burden of diabetes. His leadership has focused on improving early diagnosis, advancing clinical standards, promoting research, and enhancing awareness around preventive and patient-centric diabetes care. His work also includes active engagement in national and global forums addressing metabolic health challenges and public health strategies.
Beyond clinical and research contributions, Dr. Sahay is deeply involved in medical education and professional development, mentoring young physicians and regularly speaking at national and international conferences.
