Dr. Sandeep Bhalla

Dr. Sandeep Bhalla is a highly respected public health specialist and serves as Vice President—Projects at ECHO India, where he leads the organization’s health and education portfolio and drives the strategic expansion of the ECHO model across India to strengthen capacity-building and improve health outcomes at the community level. An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, he holds an MBBS, an MD, and a DNB in Community Medicine, and brings over two decades of experience in public health program design, implementation, and systems strengthening.
Dr. Bhalla’s career spans leadership roles across key public health institutions in India, including Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), and international technical support units where he implemented large-scale capacity-building and training programs. He also led PHFI’s Training Division for more than a decade, overseeing over thirty programs and workshops that reached healthcare professionals across more than 600 centers in 28 states, directly contributing to enhancements in clinical competence and service delivery.
In recognition of his work, Dr. Bhalla has received numerous national and international awards and has published extensively—with more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and contributions to books that explore the future of healthcare and the role of technology in transforming public health. He has also been recognized with prestigious fellowships, including a Fellowship in Leadership and Implementation Sciences focused on non-communicable disease challenges jointly delivered by the Public Health Foundation of India, Emory University, and the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico.
At ECHO India, Dr. Bhalla champions initiatives that leverage the organization’s signature “All Teach, All Learn” model to bridge knowledge gaps among frontline providers, particularly in preventive care and clinical domains such as cancer screening, maternal and child health, and infectious diseases. His leadership has helped expand nationwide programs—from cervical cancer capacity-building for nursing professionals to partnerships strengthening Continuing Medical Education in regions such as Jammu & Kashmir—reinforcing ECHO India’s mission of democratizing healthcare knowledge for better outcomes.
Dr. Bhalla also contributes to public health education as visiting faculty at institutions such as IIHMR Delhi and serves on advisory committees for training and quality standards, reflecting his enduring commitment to nurturing the next generation of public health professionals and advancing equitable healthcare systems in India.
