Dr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal is a highly respected nephrologist, clinician-scientist, and academic leader who has served as former professor and head of the Department of Nephrology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. With over four decades of experience, he is widely recognized for his contributions to kidney disease management, transplantation medicine, and capacity building in nephrology across India.

Dr. Agarwal completed his medical education at King George Medical College, Lucknow, followed by super-specialization in nephrology at AIIMS, New Delhi, in 1987. He subsequently built a long and distinguished career at AIIMS, where he served in various academic and clinical roles for nearly four decades, including 15 years as Head of the Department of Nephrology (2009–2023).

A pioneer in clinical nephrology, his areas of expertise include chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), dialysis therapies, glomerular diseases, hypertension-related kidney disorders, and kidney transplantation. He has played a significant role in strengthening renal care services and advancing protocols for dialysis and transplant medicine in India.

A prolific academician and mentor, he has trained over 125 nephrology specialists and authored more than 200 scientific publications, significantly contributing to research in renal diseases and transplant medicine. His work has earned him fellowships from prestigious bodies such as the Indian Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, and the National Academy of Sciences, India.

Recognized globally for his research impact, Dr. Agarwal has been featured among Stanford University’s top 2% scientists, reflecting the influence of his work in nephrology and transplant science.
