Dr. Sewanti Limaye is a distinguished medical oncologist and a leading voice in the advancement of precision cancer care in India. She currently serves as Director – Medical & Precision Oncology at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai, where she leads both clinical oncology and translational research initiatives aimed at delivering highly personalised, evidence-based cancer treatment. With more than two decades of experience in oncology, she has been instrumental in introducing cutting-edge precision oncology approaches in India, including establishing one of the country’s first precision oncology clinics led by a medical oncologist.
Dr. Limaye’s career is defined by her commitment to transforming cancer care through innovation, research, and global collaboration. At the Reliance Foundation Hospital, she has strengthened the Oncology Clinical and Translational Research programme, advancing the integration of genomics, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies into routine clinical practice. Her clinical expertise spans the management of a wide spectrum of solid tumours, including breast, lung, head and neck, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and gynaecological cancers.
Her academic and professional journey reflects a strong international foundation. She earned her medical degree with honours from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York University. She subsequently pursued a fellowship in Haematology and Medical Oncology at the North Shore–Long Island Jewish Health System affiliated with Albert Einstein University, New York, and also obtained a Master’s degree in Patient-Oriented Research with a focus on cancer genomics and biostatistics from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
Before returning to India, Dr. Limaye held prominent clinical and academic roles in the United States, including serving as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and working at globally renowned institutions such as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Phase-I Early Drug Development Center at Harvard Medical School. Her research collaborations have included leading institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute in the United States.
An active contributor to global oncology research, she has led multiple national and international clinical trials, served on Data Safety Monitoring Boards, and played a leadership role in landmark initiatives such as the NCI-MATCH Trial. She also co-founded international precision oncology initiatives and serves on the Ethics Board of Tata Memorial Hospital, contributing to policy and ethical oversight in cancer research.
Dr. Limaye’s contributions have been widely recognised through several prestigious honours, including the ASCO Medical Oncology Research Excellence Award, the John Flynn Young Investigator Award for excellence in clinical research, and the Rose and Jack Horowitz Award for excellence in patient care. Through her clinical leadership, research initiatives, and advocacy for personalised medicine, she continues to shape the future of oncology by advancing precision-driven, patient-centric cancer care.
