Dr. Srinivas Goli is a distinguished population scientist, demographer, and public health researcher currently serving as an associate professor in the Department of Fertility and Social Demography at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. Recognized as one of India’s leading experts in population dynamics and demographic research, his work has significantly advanced the understanding of fertility transitions, family demography, population aging, gender inequality, nutrition, and public policy.

Dr. Goli earned both his Master’s in Population Studies (2009) and Ph.D. in Population Studies (2015) from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. Prior to joining IIPS as an associate professor in 2022, he served as an assistant professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and was a New Generation Network Scholar at the Australia India Institute and the Public Policy Institute, University of Western Australia. He has also been a visiting faculty member at the University of Göttingen, Germany, reflecting his strong international academic engagement.

Dr. Goli’s research spans a broad spectrum of demographic and development issues, including fertility, marriage and family demography, economic and business demography, public health, nutrition, gender inequalities, population aging, political demography, and climate-related population challenges. His research is characterized by the application of advanced demographic methods and data analytics to generate evidence that informs public policy and sustainable development. He has collaborated with leading national and international organizations, including UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and multiple government agencies.

An accomplished scholar, Dr. Goli has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters, reports, and policy papers published in leading international journals. He serves as an academic editor for several prestigious scientific journals, including Nature Scientific Reports, PLOS ONE, SAGE Open, and Sustainability, while mentoring postgraduate and doctoral researchers in demography, public health, and development studies. His contributions have helped shape discourse on fertility decline, demographic dividend, food and nutrition security, health inequalities, and social policy in India and other developing countries.

Beyond research and teaching, Dr. Goli actively contributes to academic governance and policy dialogue as a member of the Academic Council and Executive Council of IIPS. A frequent keynote speaker at national and international conferences, he continues to influence demographic research and evidence-based policymaking through his interdisciplinary approach and commitment to addressing some of the most pressing population and development challenges facing India and the Global South.
