Dr. Vandana Lal is the Executive Director of Dr. Lal PathLabs Limited, India’s leading pathology and diagnostic company, with 7 decades of experience in the diagnostic and pathology sector in India and internationally. The company has Pan-India integrated coverage with 280 clinical labs, over 4000 patient service centers, and over 7000 pickup points.
I completed MBBS in 1978 & MD (Pathology) in 1983 from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. I pioneered the enhancement of the test menu in the company by introducing sophisticated technology. I was trained at Karolinska Institute & Huddinge Hospital, Sweden, in the field of transplantation immunology, following which the laboratory has been providing facilities for HLA testing for organ transplantation since 1990.
I am also trained in quality assurance and spearhead the quality implementation process in all the laboratories of Dr. Lal PathLabs. I am the head of Clinical Research Services, being the Chief Technical Officer since 2007, playing a pivotal role in conceiving, planning, constructing, executing, & operationalizing the clinical trials division. I also head the Research & Development wing of Dr. Lal PathLabs Limited by monitoring the development of new tests and methods. I have several publications in various fields of pathology to my credit.
My profile includes expansion of activities of the laboratory with assistance in planning and execution of new projects for the company and overall charge of all the technical departments, ensuring accuracy, quality assurance, quality control & compliance to standards laid down by the accreditation bodies like CAP, NABL & ISO. I am an international fellow of the College of American Pathologists (IFCAP).
I have attended several workshops and trainings as part of the continuing medical education process.
I am a recipient of many awards, like the Shiromani Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pathology & the Delhi Medical Association award for best all-round medical graduate.
Apart from my interest in pathology, I am a keen trekker, photographer, and voracious reader.
Along with my husband, I have established a philanthropic initiative—ALVL Foundation—for improving healthcare in far-flung, rural & remote areas of India. I am working with the Government of Uttarakhand to improve the facilities at primary health care centers. My aim is to transform primary health care in India.
I also run a program to educate the girl child in rural areas, provide financial support for their marriages, & promote community health practices.
