Dr. Y. K. Gupta is a distinguished physician, academic, and healthcare leader serving as president of AIIMS Jammu, one of India’s premier institutions of medical education, research, and tertiary care. With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Gupta is widely recognized for his contributions to clinical pharmacology, academic medicine, and national health systems strengthening.

A graduate of King George’s Medical College, Lucknow (MBBS, 1974) and a specialist in pharmacology (MD, 1979), Dr. Gupta has held pivotal academic and leadership positions across major Indian research and academic institutions. He has served as professor and head of the Department of Pharmacology and dean (academics) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he was also a key spokesperson for the institute and played a major role in shaping medical education, clinical pharmacology research, and policy initiatives at the national level.

Dr. Gupta’s scholarly impact includes more than 180 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters, reflecting his deep engagement with pharmacological research, drug safety, toxicology, and therapeutic innovation.
