Joy Chakraborty is a distinguished healthcare management professional who has built a career spanning more than three decades across hospital administration, healthcare operations, quality improvement, capacity building and strategic management. He currently serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai, having spent nearly two decades with the institution and progressed through several leadership positions. His appointment as Deputy CEO in August 2026 marks the latest step in a career that began in hospital administration and has evolved into broader institutional and industry leadership.

Mr. Chakraborty joined P. D. Hinduja Hospital in March 2007 as Deputy Director – Administration and subsequently served as Director – Administration, Senior Director – Operations and Chief Operating Officer, a position he held from January 2014 for more than 12 years. In these roles, he has been responsible for hospital operations, implementation of business strategies, resource optimisation, logistics, marketing and the continuous improvement of patient-facing services. His leadership philosophy has placed strong emphasis on system-oriented processes, operational discipline, quality, patient-centricity and the development of people and institutional capabilities.

His professional passion extends beyond day-to-day hospital management to the larger transformation of healthcare delivery. He has consistently advocated the use of technology, knowledge management and innovation to improve healthcare outcomes, while also emphasising the need to build a strong pool of trained healthcare and allied-health professionals. Earlier in his career at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Chennai, where he spent nine years, he managed hospital administration and operations and was involved in developing and teaching healthcare-management programmes. This combination of operational experience and academic engagement has remained a defining feature of his career.

Quality and patient safety are central to his professional mission. His industry involvement includes leadership roles with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO) and the Healthcare Sector Skill Council. He has also contributed to healthcare education and accreditation initiatives through advisory and academic boards. In 2026, he was appointed Chairman of CII Hospital Tech 2026, where he has articulated a vision of healthcare transformation that is technology-driven while remaining inclusive and human-centred, with particular attention to ensuring that hospitals across regions and sizes can access technology, skills, funding and capacity.

Under his operational leadership at Hinduja Hospital, the institution has also pursued initiatives aimed at expanding patient-centred services. In 2025, he was part of the leadership team that launched the hospital’s dedicated geriatric clinic, designed around healthy ageing, chronic-disease management and preventive care for senior citizens. He has also represented the institution in recognising achievements in diagnostics and research, reflecting his broader emphasis on quality healthcare and continuous institutional improvement.

Academically, Mr. Chakraborty holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology from the University of Calcutta and a postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management from the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management. He has undertaken executive education in Managing Healthcare Delivery at Harvard Business School and completed a programme in Finance for Business Leaders at IIM Ahmedabad.
