Mohammad Ameel is a public health technology leader known for advancing innovation-driven approaches to strengthen primary health care systems in India and beyond. As Head of Primary Healthcare, Technology & Innovations at PATH India, he has played a pivotal role in identifying, nurturing, and scaling transformative health solutions that improve access, efficiency, and outcomes across diverse care settings. Guided by a strong belief in the power of technology to bridge systemic gaps, Ameel has consistently championed partnerships that accelerate the adoption of near-ready innovations within public health ecosystems.
During his tenure at PATH, he contributed to initiatives such as the PHC Tech Challenge, which sought to identify breakthrough technologies—from smartphone-based diagnostic tools to portable screening devices—that could significantly enhance primary health care delivery. Emphasizing the importance of leveraging innovation, he noted that health systems can greatly benefit when technology is effectively deployed to improve accessibility and quality of care. His work has focused on bringing together governments, donors, and global stakeholders to support implementation pathways for promising solutions and to strengthen health infrastructure at scale.
Ameel brings over a decade of multidisciplinary experience spanning international development, government administration, and hospital systems. Prior to PATH, he served as Senior Consultant and In-charge of the Healthcare Technology Division at the National Health Systems Resource Centre, where he also led a WHO Collaborating Centre. He later joined the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Regional Office as a Technical Officer in Assistive Technology, further expanding his impact on global health programs.
Academically, Ameel holds a Bachelor of Technology and an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, and is a Fellow in Health Technology Assessment from IIT Madras—credentials that underpin his strategic and analytical approach to health innovation. Through his career, he has emerged as a forward-looking professional dedicated to integrating technology with public health priorities to build resilient, future-ready health systems.
