Dr. Mohammad Khalid Sayeed Pasha is a distinguished conservation leader and Asia Regional Coordinator – Protected, Conserved & Heritage Areas at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Asia Regional Office, based in Bangkok, Thailand. With over 30 years of experience in wildlife conservation, biodiversity governance, and sustainable natural resource management across Asia, he has played a pivotal role in advancing area-based and landscape-level conservation strategies that integrate ecological sustainability with equitable governance frameworks.
In his leadership role at IUCN, Dr. Pasha champions initiatives that support the implementation of global biodiversity targets—including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and Target 3 for conserving 30% of land, freshwater, and marine areas by 2030—by promoting effective standards and governance for protected, conserved, and heritage areas (PCHAs) throughout the region. His work emphasizes collaboration with governments, Indigenous peoples, local communities, and multilateral partners to foster ecological connectivity, sustainable natural resource management, and inclusive stewardship that delivers measurable conservation outcomes.
Dr. Pasha is actively involved in leading regional platforms such as the Asia Protected Areas Partnership (APAP) and serves on specialist groups within the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) and other technical task forces focused on integrating human–wildlife coexistence into conservation standards. He has also contributed to global knowledge products and policy guidance that shape area-based conservation practice across Asia.
A respected thought leader, Dr. Pasha has authored peer-reviewed publications and opinion pieces that advocate for biodiversity-climate integration and equitable conservation governance, influencing both policy and practice on the frontlines of nature-positive action. His contributions reflect a lifelong commitment to strengthening biodiversity conservation, sustainability, and collaborative solutions across diverse landscapes and seascapes in Asia and beyond.
