Mohammed Asif

Dr. Mohammed Asif is a seasoned development leader and the Executive Director of Plan International (India Chapter)—a nationally registered non-profit organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights, gender equality, and the holistic development of vulnerable communities across India. In his current role, which he assumed in December 2019, he provides strategic vision and leadership to Plan India’s program design, implementation, and advocacy efforts, focusing on outcomes that strengthen education, health, protection, and empowerment for children and adolescents, especially girls.
Mr. Asif’s journey with Plan India spans nearly two decades. He joined the organization in 2006, rising through key national leadership roles, including Director of Program Implementation, where he oversaw the successful execution of more than 500 development projects with an aggregate budget of USD 250 million in partnership with more than 100 grassroots NGOs—initiatives that have transformed lives and created sustainable impact in areas such as youth economic empowerment, health, nutrition, and education.
With more than 25 years of experience in the social development and humanitarian sectors, Dr. Asif brings deep expertise in designing and managing large-scale, child-centered community development programs, including maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, school-based initiatives, skills development, and disaster risk reduction. His leadership reflects a commitment to inclusive, rights-based development and collaborative partnerships with government, donors, civil society, and community stakeholders.
An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, he holds a master’s in sociology and has pursued specialized professional training in global health project management and risk management, equipping him with both analytical and operational skills essential for leading complex development organizations.
Under his stewardship, Plan India continues to drive impactful programmes that enhance access to quality education, health services, economic opportunities and protective environments for children and young people—contributing to systemic improvements that enable them to learn, lead, decide and thrive in an equitable society
