Debasree Chaudhuri is a dedicated Indian political leader whose work reflects a deep commitment to public service, women’s empowerment, and community development. Born on 31 January 1971 in Balurghat, West Bengal, she graduated with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Burdwan, a foundation that supported her early forays into social activism and organizational politics.
Chaudhuri’s political journey has been closely entwined with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where she built her reputation through sustained grassroots engagement and organizational leadership within the party’s youth and women’s wings. Her perseverance culminated in a historic electoral victory in the 2019 Indian general elections, when she was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha as the Member of Parliament from the Raiganj constituency in West Bengal. This win underscored her appeal across communities and marked a significant milestone for her party in a region long dominated by other political forces.
Shortly after her election to Parliament, Chaudhuri was appointed Minister of State for Women and Child Development in the Government of India, serving in this role from 2019 to 2021. In this capacity, she worked closely on policies and programs aimed at strengthening the welfare, safety, and empowerment of women and children nationwide, focusing on amplifying the impact of key flagship initiatives and enhancing policy implementation at both national and local levels.
