Dr. Girish Shrikrishna Tillu is a distinguished Vaidya-Scientist, educator, and researcher serving as Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University, where he also leads research as the Principal Investigator of the AYUSH Centre of Excellence and serves as Executive Editor of the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. His academic journey spans an M.D. in Dravyaguna Vidnyan (Ayurveda Pharmacology) and a Ph.D. in Health Sciences, forming the bedrock for a career that bridges traditional Ayurveda with modern biomedical research and integrative health science.
Over more than two decades of experience, Dr. Tillu has distinguished himself by advancing interdisciplinary research that spans preclinical studies, clinical trials, epidemiological investigations and evidence-based evaluation of traditional systems. His early career included roles in the development of digital knowledge systems such as AyuSoft — an Ayurveda decision-support knowledge base — and collaborations on multi-institutional research projects focused on degenerative and autoimmune diseases. More recently, his work encompasses contemporary challenges including Ayurveda-based adjuvants for COVID-19, immunomodulation, and investigations into associations between Prakriti (Ayurvedic constitution) and the gut microbiome, reflecting his ability to integrate classical concepts with current scientific enquiry.
As an educator, Dr. Tillu teaches a diverse range of courses—from AYUSH systems and integrative health to dietetics, clinical trials, and bioethics—nurturing the next generation of health scientists and practitioners in an interdisciplinary environment that values both traditional learning and rigorous research methodology. His editorial leadership of the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, published in partnership with Savitribai Phule Pune University, further amplifies his influence in shaping scholarly dialogue at the intersection of Ayurveda, public health, clinical research, and integrative practice.
