He further expanded his global exposure with specialized training in the epidemiology of infectious diseases at the University of Michigan and in ethical issues in health research at programs organized by Harvard University, Tufts University, and the University of Natal, South Africa, equipping him with a rare blend of clinical, research, and ethical insight.

Dr. Singh spent over 30 years on the faculty of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he rose to become Professor and Head of the Division of Clinical Microbiology & Molecular Medicine. His work in tropical and infectious diseases—notably tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, toxoplasmosis, and other difficult-to-diagnose infections—earned him a global reputation, reflected in more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, editorial leadership roles, and seven patents, including rapid diagnostic technologies adopted for India’s Kala-azar elimination program.

In June 2018, he was appointed by the Government of India as Director & Chief Executive Officer of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, where he led the institute through organizational development, academic expansion, and a strong evidence-based response to the COVID-19 pandemic until his retirement in November 2021. Shortly thereafter, he helped establish the Medical Sciences and Engineering Research (MEDSER) Centre at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal to foster collaboration between medicine and basic sciences. He is currently Director of Medical Research and Institutional Collaborations at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College (a unit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation) in Puducherry, where he champions capacity building, quality research, and innovation in medical science.

Dr. Singh’s contributions have been recognized globally—he is listed among the world’s top 2% of scientists for multiple consecutive years, holds fellowships in leading national and international scientific academies, serves on ethics and grant review panels worldwide, and continues to shape scientific discourse as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Laboratory Physicians and editorial member of numerous international journals. His leadership reflects a lifelong commitment to translational science, affordable diagnostics, and strengthening the research ecosystem in India and beyond.
