Born on 14 September 1956 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, he pursued his medical education at King George’s Medical University, laying the foundation for a career that would span some of the country’s most respected healthcare institutions.

Over the decades, Prof. Kant has held several influential academic and administrative roles. He served as Vice Chancellor of King George’s Medical University from 2014 to 2017, where he contributed to strengthening academic standards and institutional governance. He later assumed the position of Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, leading the institute from 2017 to 2021 during a critical phase of its growth as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Earlier in his career, he headed the Department of Surgery at AIIMS Bhopal and served on the faculty of Maulana Azad Medical College, demonstrating his longstanding dedication to clinical practice and medical training.
