Prof. Sheffali Gulati

Prof. (Dr.) Sheffali Gulati is a globally recognized pediatric neurologist and academic leader who serves as Chief of the Child Neurology Division and Coordinator of the DM Pediatric Neurology Program in the Department of Pediatrics at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. With more than three decades of experience in pediatric neurology, she has played a pivotal role in advancing clinical care, research, and training in childhood neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders in India and across Asia.

Prof. Gulati completed her MBBS (1988) and MD in Pediatrics from AIIMS, New Delhi, later receiving several fellowships and professional recognitions, including FRCPCH (UK), FAMS, FIAP, and FIMSA. She joined the AIIMS faculty in 2000 and has since built one of the region’s most influential pediatric neurology programs, mentoring numerous DM residents, PhD scholars, and postgraduate trainees.

She was part of the pioneering team that launched the first DM Pediatric Neurology program in South Asia in 2004 and has led the program since 2008, helping establish pediatric neurology as a specialized discipline in India. She also serves as faculty-in-charge of the Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research for Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders at AIIMS and holds an adjunct academic role at the National Brain Research Centre.

A prolific researcher and thought leader, Prof. Gulati’s work focuses on autism spectrum disorders, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders, neurogenetics, and neurodevelopmental disabilities, along with innovative approaches such as neurorehabilitation, dietary therapies for epilepsy, and technology-enabled diagnostics and interventions. She has authored hundreds of scientific publications in leading journals and is widely recognized for translational research that improves clinical outcomes for children with neurological disorders.

Her contributions to science and medicine have earned numerous national and international honors, including the Janaki Ammal National Women Bioscientist Award, AIIMS Excellence Research Awards, and several global recognitions in pediatric neurology. She has also been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists in global citation rankings.

In addition to her academic work, Prof. Gulati is deeply engaged in professional leadership and global collaborations. She has served as president of the Association of Child Neurology (India), an executive board member of the Asian Oceanian Child Neurology Association, and an active contributor to international research networks and policy initiatives aimed at improving care for children with neurological and developmental disorders worldwide.

Through her clinical expertise, pioneering academic leadership, and dedication to child health research, Prof. Sheffali Gulati continues to shape the landscape of pediatric neurology and neurodevelopmental care in India and internationally.
