Professor Vivekanand Jha is a globally respected nephrologist, public health leader, and academic whose work has significantly advanced kidney health research and policy worldwide. As Executive Director of The George Institute for Global Health, India, and a former President of the International Society of Nephrology, he has been at the forefront of driving global collaboration to address the growing burden of chronic kidney disease and non-communicable diseases. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to improving health systems, expanding equitable access to care, and developing scalable, sustainable prevention strategies that address both clinical and societal challenges linked to kidney disease.

With extensive academic and research credentials—including an MBBS from Patna Medical College followed by MD and DM training at PGIMER Chandigarh—Professor Jha has built a distinguished international career spanning clinical medicine, academic leadership, and global health policy. He serves as Chair of Global Kidney Health at Imperial College London and has held professorial roles with leading global institutions, including the University of Oxford and UNSW Sydney. His research interests focus on understanding the health and economic impact of kidney diseases and advancing innovative, community-based approaches to prevention and treatment.

A prolific scholar and thought leader, Professor Jha has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and contributed to global clinical guidelines in collaboration with organizations such as the World Health Organization. His work spans more than 20 countries and combines multidisciplinary research with strong advocacy to influence health policy and improve patient outcomes worldwide. Recognized for academic excellence and professional leadership, he has received multiple honours, including the American Nephrologists of Indian Origin Award for Academic Excellence, reflecting his lasting contributions to global nephrology and public health.
