Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu is a seasoned Indian statesman, economist, and policy strategist who has played a defining role in shaping India’s economic, trade, infrastructure, and sustainability agenda across more than four decades of public life. A qualified Chartered Accountant with degrees in commerce and law, he entered public service with a strong foundation in finance and governance, eventually becoming a six-time Member of Parliament and a Union Cabinet Minister across multiple high-impact portfolios, including Railways, Commerce & Industry, Civil Aviation, Power, Environment & Forests, and Fertilizers & Chemicals.

As Union Minister of Commerce and Industry (2017–2019), he guided India’s trade and industrial policy during a critical phase of global economic shifts, focusing on export competitiveness, foreign investment, digital commerce policy, and ease of doing business. Under his leadership, India achieved record merchandise exports and introduced landmark initiatives such as the Agriculture Export Policy, Make in India 2.0 planning, district-level economic acceleration frameworks, and modern intellectual property and e-commerce policies to strengthen India’s position in global markets. His broader ministerial work across sectors has included railway modernization, aviation expansion, energy reforms, and environmental governance — demonstrating a consistent commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth.

Beyond government, Shri Prabhu is recognised globally as a policy thinker and sustainability advocate. He has represented India as Sherpa to the G20 and G7, served on international advisory bodies and United Nations initiatives, and contributed to think tanks focused on climate, energy, and development. An accomplished academic and thought leader, he has also served as Chancellor of Rishihood University and Visiting Professor at leading global institutions, reflecting his dedication to knowledge, policy innovation, and future leadership development.
