Takuya Kijima
Managing Director
Eisai Pharmaceuticals
Takuya Kijima is a senior pharmaceutical executive who currently serves as Director and Managing Director of Eisai Pharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai Co., Ltd. He was appointed to the position with effect from 12 February 2026, succeeding the previous leadership and taking responsibility for Eisai’s India operations at an important stage in the company’s expansion of innovative medicines and healthcare solutions. Eisai India’s official leadership and board records confirm his current designation.
Mr. Kijima brings extensive experience within Eisai, having developed his career across commercial and marketing functions in Japan before taking on international leadership responsibilities. His professional profile indicates that he spent approximately a decade as a medical representative, gaining exposure to multiple customer segments, including private practitioners, core hospitals, and university hospitals, before moving into Eisai’s domestic marketing organization, where he spent around seven years. This combination of field-level commercial experience and strategic marketing exposure provides an important foundation for his present responsibility of leading Eisai’s India business.
His leadership at Eisai India is closely aligned with the company’s Human Health Care (HHC) philosophy, which places patients and people in the daily-living domain at the center of business decisions. Eisai India describes its mission as addressing healthcare challenges and reducing healthcare disparities, while combining pharmaceutical research, manufacturing, commercial operations, and partnerships to improve access to innovative medicines. Mr. Kijima’s appointment comes as the company seeks to deepen this patient-first approach in India, one of the world’s largest and most diverse healthcare markets.
One of the most significant developments during his early tenure has been Eisai India’s launch of LEQEMBI (lecanemab) for early Alzheimer’s disease following approval by India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. The August 2026 launch marked the introduction in India of a disease-modifying therapy for early Alzheimer’s disease. In commenting on the launch, Mr. Kijima highlighted the importance of improving access and awareness and said Eisai’s patient-support programs would seek to help eligible patients initiate and continue treatment in keeping with the company’s HHC philosophy.
The launch is particularly relevant to Eisai India’s broader strategic direction because the company’s portfolio and capabilities extend beyond commercialization. Eisai India operates an integrated pharmaceutical value chain encompassing drug-substance manufacturing, research and development, drug production, and commercial operations. Its Vizag facility contributes to the global supply of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished-dose formulations, while the company has also developed medicines for neurological and other therapeutic areas.
Another important dimension of Mr. Kijima’s mandate is strengthening access to innovative healthcare while navigating India’s complex healthcare environment. Eisai India has emphasized the need to address healthcare disparities and expand the benefits of innovative medicines to a wider population. His leadership therefore comes at a time when the company is balancing innovation with affordability, patient awareness, diagnostic infrastructure, and the development of appropriate support mechanisms for new therapies. His public comments around Alzheimer’s care have specifically identified access and awareness as important barriers that need to be addressed alongside the availability of new treatments.
Mr. Kijima’s professional journey reflects a progression from frontline pharmaceutical engagement to marketing leadership and, ultimately, international business management. His experience across different healthcare channels gives him an understanding of the importance of both scientific innovation and effective engagement with physicians, hospitals, and patients. His current role at Eisai India brings these experiences together with responsibility for the company’s commercial and strategic direction in the country.
As Managing Director, Mr. Takuya Kijima is leading Eisai India’s next phase with a mission centered on putting patients first, expanding access to innovative medicines, addressing healthcare disparities, and strengthening the company’s contribution to India’s evolving healthcare ecosystem. His leadership is particularly significant as Eisai introduces advanced therapies into India while continuing to build local manufacturing, research, and commercial capabilities.
