More than 47 years ago, on 25th July 1978, history was rewritten with the birth of Louise Brown — the world’s first IVF baby. That landmark day is now celebrated globally as World IVF Day. Yet, even today, infertility remains shrouded in myths, silence, and stigma — especially in a society bound by taboos around sexual health, menstrual hygiene, and reproductive challenges.

India is facing a dual challenge: declining fertility rates and a rising burden of infertility. According to NFHS-5 (2019-21), the Total Fertility Rate has dropped to 2.0 nationally — 1.6 in urban areas and 2.1 in rural areas. Despite remarkable medical advancements, millions of couples continue to struggle in silence due to lack of awareness and deep-rooted orthodoxies.

The encouraging news is that science has advanced dramatically. Modern IVF treatments now offer 35-40% success per cycle on average, with success rates reaching 50-60% for women under 35 years. With multiple cycles, the cumulative chance of parenthood is significantly higher.

The 7th India IVF Summit, organized to commemorate World IVF Day, is a powerful platform that brings together leading fertility experts, government authorities, policymakers, researchers, and aspiring parents.
